Product Data Description The 3M™ Chest System from Imation™ consists of Imation's GCA Chest Imaging Film and two matched screens designed to give optimal information at low dose levels. Emulsions with different characteristics on each side of the film give maximum detail of both the mediastinum and the lung field. The individual intensifying screens in the cassette are designed to match the sensitometric characteristics of the two emulsions to produce a full information chest examination with one exposure. GCA Chest Imaging Film uses a 7 ml (0.18 mm) blue polyethylene terephthalate base, which gives the radiograph a high level of transparency and brightness. It is designed for proper handling in automatic chest system changers and daylight loading systems such as the 3M™ Trimatic™ Modular Advanced Proccessing System from Imation™. Applications
Green Ultraviolet TechnologyThe Chest System is based on our green ultraviolet technology, which uses different emulsions on the front and back of the film, each paired with an intensifying screen. The front unit operates in the ultraviolet/blue portion of the spectrum, the back unit in the green. Because the front and back units operate in different wavelengths of light, there is limited crossover effect. Cross Section of GCA Film![]() GCA Chest Imaging Film produces smooth, "low-noise" images. The shape of the characteristic curve (a long "straight line" combined with a modulated "toe") allows the film to record more information at both high and low densities. Product Characteristics
Low Minimum Density Sensitometric Characteristics The Chest System is an asymmetrical system composed of front and back image-forming units. The front unit uses a very high resolution screen and a fine grain emulsion to deliver a high-contrast image. The back unit adds a wide-latitude, high-speed image obtained with a very fast screen and wide-latitude emulsion. The resulting sensitometric curve provides a dynamic recording range with extended latitude in low exposure areas for mediastinal detail and a lengthened straight region to expand the high-density areas.

Handling
The optimum physical properties of GCA Chest Imaging Film ensure proper handling in automatic chest changers and daylight loaders such as the Trimatic™ Advanced Modular Processing System. ProcessingGCA Chest Imaging Film exhibits a high degree of processing latitude in most chemistries and processors. Contact your local Imation sales representative for recommendations on processing conditions which yield optimum results with your chemistry and processor. Darkroom HandlingGCA Chest Imaging Film must be handled in a darkroom under suitable safelight conditions. Use of a 15 watt bulb with safelight filter placed no closer than 48 inches from film area is recommended. Suitable safelight filters include EncapSulite® R20, Wratten® 1A or Kodak® GBX series. Cassette LoadingThe Chest System incorporates a dedicated cassette which easily can be recognized by its gold frame and "Imation Chest Cassette" label. The screens and film are marked with notches to ensure correct orientation of film in the cassette. When GCA Chest Imaging Film is properly loaded, a notch in the upper right corner of the film will match up with a corresponding notch in the upper right corner of the screen. PackagingGCA Chest Imaging Film is available in a variety of sizes to accommodate your chest imaging needs. The film also is available in daylight-load packaging for use in the Trimatic™ Advanced Modular Processing System. System. The packaging material meets or exceeds all applicable guidelines and regulations regarding recyclable material. Storage GCA Chest Imaging Film must be protected from radiation and chemical fumes and must be stored in its original packaging at room temperature. Recommended storage conditions: 68°F 75°F (20°C 24°C) and a relative humidity ranging from 40% to 60%. Film boxes must be storedin an upright position to prevent mechanical stress.
